
The U.S. Department of Defense announced on Saturday the identities of six Air Force personnel killed in a refueling plane crash over Iraqi territory.
On Thursday, the US military announced that one of its KC-135 aerial refueling aircraft had crashed in western Iraq, while a second aircraft involved in the incident landed safely. An armed group known as the "Islamic Resistance in Iraq" claimed responsibility for shooting down the aircraft.
The US Central Command (CENTCOM) said in a statement, “One of the two aircraft went down in western Iraq, and the second landed safely. This was not due to hostile or friendly fire.”
Israel and the United States have been launching airstrikes on Iran since Saturday, February 28, which resulted in the death of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. Since then, Tehran has been retaliating by striking Israel and countries in the region with missiles and drones.
