Al-Silawi apologizes: “I suffer from a neurological disease that has affected my cognitive abilities.”
Following his recent statements about Islam and the prophets, which sparked widespread anger and prompted Jordanian authorities to issue a security order to arrest him upon his return to the country, while his father announced his disavowal of him, the young Jordanian artist Hussam Al-Silawi has returned to the forefront again with a lengthy apology, indicating his suffering from a neurological disease that affected his perception.
In a post on his Instagram account, Al-Silawi wrote a lengthy message in which he said, “I offer a sincere and deep apology for any words or actions I have taken regarding matters of our true religion, which did not reflect the truth of what is in my heart, nor my firm faith in God and His noble Messenger.”
He continued, “I have been going through and am still going through a very difficult health period, as I suffer from a neurological disease that has greatly affected my perception and awareness, and made me live in a spiral of hallucinations and unrealistic thoughts that I cannot control, such as the delusion that my family has kidnapped me.”
He added, “I would like to clarify that these thoughts and words were never of my own volition, but rather are the result of a difficult medical condition that I am resisting with all my might.”
"I am fighting the disease fiercely."
He also confirmed that he is continuing his treatment journey and trying to resist the disease with all his might, saying, “Today I am fighting this disease fiercely, and I am striving to continue my treatment and recover, God willing. I have complete faith and certainty that I will overcome this ordeal, and I will return, God willing, stronger and better than I was, with more faith and closer to my Lord.”
He concluded by saying, “I would like to renew my pledge and deep love for our master, our beloved, and the apple of our eye, Muhammad ﷺ, who taught us mercy, tolerance, and love, and whom God sent as a mercy to the worlds.”
In contrast, the apology message sparked a reaction among his followers and fans, with many expressing sympathy for his health condition, while others called on his family to contain him and subject him to treatment and monitoring.
Anger... and a security order
It is worth noting that Al-Silawi has been trending on social media in recent days with statements about the Islamic religion and the prophets, which has sparked a wave of anger and demands for him to be held accountable. Meanwhile, the Jordanian security services have intervened in the crisis, as an official security circular was issued requesting the arrest of Al-Silawi as soon as he returns to Jordanian territory.
Al-Silawi faces charges related to contempt of religion, inciting sedition, and insulting the prophets under Article 273 of the Penal Code, which states that “whoever is proven to have dared to speak out publicly against the prophets of the divine laws shall be imprisoned from one to three years.”
