The realistic and popular impression prevails over everything, and you will not find a single Arab who looks at the Arab League with any appreciation, due to its absence from most crises, difficult circumstances and wars, and its transformation into an Arab form.
All the crises that have gone through the region, threatening the peoples of the region and their stability, have not led to any effective action on the part of the League of Arab States. If we were to hold a political and diplomatic workshop to evaluate the performance of the League of Arab States, we would discover that the performance is very low and has no value.
Apart from the political expressions issued in official statements, the Arab League makes no effort in the face of dangers or crises, nor does it attempt to communicate with influential countries in the world in order to formulate any decision or direction, including the transformation of Arab summits into a ceremonial form that does not produce decisions or directions. Perhaps this period is the worst period for the Arab League, which does not play any role towards the region and its crises.
From the files of Israeli aggression against Arab peoples, to the file of Iran, and what is happening in the region and other things, and when you ask a number of diplomats in the League, they tell you that the origin of the crisis is the lack of agreement among Arab capitals on anything, which weakens the performance of the institution, and the tendency of most countries to work individually, or through bilateral coordination with each other, or other countries. The meaning of the statement is that the state of absence here is attributed to the official Arab system according to this interpretation, which turns the League into a legal form that is not influential at the Arab level, nor at the international level as well.
It is inconceivable that the Arab world should remain in the midst of this mill grinding its future, while the League of Arab States fails to regain its role or revitalize its presence, just as the threats to the security of the region today impose a new Arab form as an alternative to the League, based on compatible economic and political groups that work together, so that countries do not remain alone and politically exposed, especially before international institutions.
The story here is not just about feelings and emotions, but about shared interests and geography, and adversaries from all sides targeting this region, its people, and its resources. Instead of the prevailing state of blame, due to the failure of all regional Arab and Islamic institutions, a new pattern must be devised in light of the challenges and dangers that are sweeping the entire region. These are dangers that require groups based on an alliance of countries under any name. The duty to review the form and effectiveness of the League of Arab States should not be overlooked, instead of this situation in which the League has turned into an institution in the intensive care unit.
The threats have reached their highest level, compared to previous threats, and these threats need to be dealt with differently instead of relying on failing institutions that do not deserve the salaries of their employees, nor the operating costs.
