Azerbaijan announced on Thursday that Nakhchivan had been attacked by drones originating from Iran.
The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry said it had summoned the Iranian ambassador to Baku.
The ministry condemned the attacks, which injured two people, and declared that it "reserves the right to respond."
Earlier on Thursday, a source close to the Azerbaijani government told Reuters that missiles and drones coming from the direction of Iran had fallen within the perimeter of Nakhchivan airport.
Nakhchivan International Airport is located about 10 kilometers from the border with Iran.
