On Sunday, May 3, 2026, a planting event was held at the Royal Botanic Garden to support the environment and economy of bees in Jordan.
In an atmosphere full of vitality and cooperation, the Hand in Hand Association for Economic Empowerment and Entrepreneurship, in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture, the Royal Botanic Garden, the Jordanian Beekeepers Syndicate, and the Jordan University of Science and Technology, organized the “Ward and Ammar” event at the Royal Botanic Garden, which formed a special environmental day that combined field work and community awareness, with the aim of supporting the bee environment and promoting the concept of a bee-based economy in Jordan. The implementation of this event comes within the activities of the “Strengthening Local Beekeeping Networks and Entrepreneurial Excellence in the Bee Sector” project “PLANBEE”.
The event saw the participation of more than 78 people interested in environmental issues, most of whom were young people, with a notable participation of girls.
In addition to the distinguished presence of stakeholders and policymakers, represented by several representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture: Engineer Jumana Al-Masouda, Head of the Bee Division; Engineer Fares Al-Rahahleh, Bee and Fish Department; Engineer Bilal Al-Habees, Head of the Afforestation and Nurseries Department; and Engineer Suha Al-Manfalouti, Project Implementation Follow-up Department/Projects Directorate. The National Center for Agricultural Research was represented by Ms. Banan Al-Shaqour, Director of the Bee Research Directorate.
During the event, 100 seedlings of plants that attract bees were planted, in a practical step aimed at supporting biodiversity and enhancing the environment for pollinators.
The program included, in addition to agriculture, a tour inside the Royal Botanical Garden in Tel al-Rumman, along with interactive meetings that addressed the importance of bees in preserving biodiversity and their vital role in supporting the local economy.
As part of the project's support for bee tourism, a hike was organized towards the Beisan apiaries in the Jordanian countryside, giving participants the opportunity to see beehives firsthand. An awareness session was also conducted by Dr. Mohammad Rababa'a, head of the Jordanian Beekeepers Association, who explained the importance of bees, their life cycle, and the vital role this sector plays in supporting the environment and the economy. He also encouraged young people, especially girls, to consider beekeeping as a promising career path.
The tour also included a rich display of diverse bee products, from food, care products, and beeswax to therapeutic products, reflecting the variety of economic opportunities associated with this sector.
At the end of the tour, the participants gathered for a rural lunch prepared by the local community, reflecting the spirit of cooperation and local identity.
It is being implemented by 7 partners from 6 countries.
