Massive march in Amman in support of the Palestinian people on the anniversary of the Nakba – Photos
On Friday, massive public marches swept through the capital Amman and the rest of the Kingdom’s governorates, in which popular, partisan, and union activities, along with civil society institutions, participated, coinciding with the commemoration of the Palestinian Nakba, in a clear affirmation of Jordan’s support for the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, in addition to adhering to the Hashemite custodianship over the Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.
In the capital, Amman, a massive public march set off from in front of the Al-Husseini Mosque in the downtown area, in response to calls from popular, partisan, union and civil society organizations, coinciding with similar marches and vigils from several areas in the capital after Friday prayers, amid broad participation from citizens.
These events came as a confirmation of support for the steadfastness of the Palestinian people and their legitimate rights, and as a renewal of support for the firm Jordanian position regarding the Palestinian cause, and a rejection of attempts to displace and liquidate the Palestinian cause, in addition to emphasizing adherence to the Hashemite custodianship over the Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, and its role in protecting the Arab and Islamic identity of the holy city and preserving its holy sites.
The Kingdom’s camps, most notably the Talbieh camp, along with a number of cities and villages, witnessed similar vigils and marches during which Jordanian and Palestinian flags were raised, and chants were heard affirming the rejection of the displacement that aims to liquidate the Palestinian cause.
Participants expressed their pride in the pivotal and historic role played by His Majesty King Abdullah II in international forums in defense of the Palestinian cause, and his continuous efforts to stop the aggression against the Palestinian people and to mobilize political and humanitarian support for the brothers in Gaza and the West Bank, stressing that the official and popular Jordanian position embodies the highest meanings of solidarity and loyalty to the Palestinian cause.
The participants affirmed that the Hashemite custodianship of the Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem represents the safety valve and the first line of defense in protecting the Arab, Islamic and Christian identity of the holy city, and in confronting attempts to Judaize and obliterate its historical and religious landmarks.
Speakers stressed that the broad participation of various segments of Jordanian society, with the presence of political parties, professional associations, and civil society organizations, reflects the strength of the Jordanian home front and the unity of its position behind the Hashemite leadership in defending the central issues of the nation, foremost among them the Palestinian cause.
Participants in the marches raised Jordanian and Palestinian flags and banners affirming Jordan's unwavering stance against all forms of aggression, displacement, and resettlement, embodying the highest ideals of patriotism and loyalty to the Hashemite leadership, and emphasizing their continued support for the steadfastness of the Palestinian people until they achieve their legitimate rights and establish their independent state on their national soil with East Jerusalem as its capital.
