Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi discussed today with Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kestutis Bodryus ways to enhance bilateral relations and expand cooperation between the two countries in various fields, in addition to regional developments.
Safadi and Boudreous affirmed the depth of the friendly relations between the two countries, and the shared commitment to building upon and developing them in the economic, investment, defense, educational, tourism, cybersecurity and other fields, in a way that serves common interests and enhances bilateral cooperation.
The two ministers agreed to hold the first round of political consultations between the two countries in the coming months to develop a roadmap to identify priority areas of cooperation and practical steps to enhance and expand bilateral cooperation.
The two ministers also discussed strengthening cooperation within the framework of international organizations and the European Union.
During his visit to Lithuania, the first by a Jordanian foreign minister, Safadi pointed to the importance of the Jordanian-European Investment Conference, which the Kingdom will host this year, as an opportunity to enhance economic cooperation between Jordan and the European Union, and an opportunity for Lithuanian investors and businessmen to participate in the conference and learn about investment opportunities in Jordan.
The two ministers discussed developments in the regional situation, the repercussions of the dangerous escalation in the region, and the efforts aimed at ending it and restoring security and stability.
Safadi briefed Bodryus on the serious deterioration of the situation in the occupied West Bank as a result of illegal Israeli measures that undermine the two-state solution, which Lithuania supports as the path to peace. Safadi stressed the need for concerted efforts to halt these measures in order to protect a just peace and uphold international law. The two ministers also discussed the situation in Gaza and the urgent need to stabilize the situation and remove Israeli obstacles to the immediate and complete entry of humanitarian aid.
Safadi appreciated Lithuania’s support for the two-state solution and for efforts to achieve stability in the region.
In addition, Safadi met with the Vice-President of the Lithuanian Parliament, Viktorija Nielsen, at the Lithuanian Parliament headquarters, and discussed with her mechanisms for developing cooperation in several vital sectors of interest to the two friendly countries, in addition to a number of issues of common interest.
